Invisible Women: The Nine Truths about Eating Disorders at Midlife and Beyond – with Dr Margo Maine, PhD, FAED, CEDS
We are so excited to announce a live, in person workshop with the fabulous Dr Margo Maine on Saturday 27th September (10am-3pm), in Malahide Dublin.
Age does not immunize women from eating disorders, despite prevailing beliefs that they only affect the young.
Today the majority of midlife women express significant weight preoccupation and distress regarding shape, appearance, and diet, threatening their health, well-being, and status.
Informed by Relational Cultural Theory, this presentation examines their unique treatment needs through case material and clinical vignettes.
Eating disorders are life-threatening and treatable diseases, and must be approached as openly, seriously, and compassionately as we approach breast cancer and other public health problems.
We can no longer allow these invisible women to hide in plain sight. Time’s up!
Workshop objectives:
- To identify the unique risk factors, treatment needs, and presentation patterns of eating disorders and body image despair currently seen in adult women
- To build relational skills to challenge the eating disorder, decrease the shame and isolation, and
foster recovery - To conceptualize the solutions for this serious but unrecognized problem for public health
strategies.
