#EDInformed – Join Us!
‘We want to ensure that Everyone is #EDInformed’
Together, We Can Make a Difference
We know that having #ED informed care, right from the very start of the illness, can make such a difference to treatment, to the client’s experience during treatment – and to recovery outcomes.
And yet, presently, eating disorders do not form a core part of training for most healthcare professionals (GP’s, Nurses, Dentists, Mental Health Nurses, Counsellors, Therapists, Dietitians and Nutritional Therapists, Occupational Therapists), teachers and those in the fitness industry.
We would like to change that, by ensuring that everyone is #ED informed
So, if you are someone affected by eating disorders, a caregiver or a professional working in the field, please join our campaign and make a difference!
You can help us to:
- Raise awareness about the need for training on eating disorders
- Help overcome barriers to screening and early intervention (we know that often eating disorders are the last thing to be considered)
- Ensure that first responders (such as GP’s, Practice Nurses, Dietitians) are educated and informed
- Eliminate delays due to lack of awareness/training (which can have a material impact on someone’s treatment and recovery)
How Can You Help?
We want change so that people affected by eating disorders can get adequate help – FAST
Why We Are Running This Campaign
As Supported Families, we have extensive personal and professional experience in eating disorders. Every day we support individuals affected by eating disorders. We teach their caregivers the skills, tools and strategies they need to effectively provide support, and we run a Peer Group for Eating Disorder Professionals.
Last year, we were part of an advocacy group, led by Mind Everybody Campaign (Mind EveryBody | advocating for reform in eating disorder services), seeking to improve the very poor services currently available for people suffering from Eating Disorders in Ireland. We had the opportunity to speak in the Irish Parliament (the Dail) to raise our concerns, along with other individuals with lived experience and caregivers.
This led us to thinking that, in addition to supporting the MindEverybody Campaign, we should seek to raise awareness around the benefits of all professionals being #ED informed.
We know that professionals are well-meaning, that they will always try to do their best for their clients/patients/students but sometimes, especially when it comes to eating disorders, they don’t know enough.
This powerful campaign is designed to help that – to raise awareness and to address the huge need for specialised training on this topic.

Who can participate in this campaign?
Anyone affected by eating disorders – whether they have suffered with an eating disorder or whether they have supported someone affected by eating disorders.
Anyone working in a healthcare, educational or fitness capacity (GP’s, Nurses, Dentists, Mental Health Nurses, Counsellors, Therapists, Dietitians and Nutritional Therapists, Occupational Therapists, teachers and those in the fitness industry.)
